The role
fscom is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Trainee Accountant to join our dynamic team and company. This role offers an excellent opportunity to build a career and gain hands-on experience in financial operations within the professional services sector, working alongside experienced finance professionals in a supportive and collaborative environment. The trainee accountant will support the finance team with day‑to‑day accounting tasks while studying toward a recognised professional qualification.
Responsibilities
Upon training from our expert team, you will:
- Preparing monthly Management Accounts to draft stage, including full monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts across all companies in the group and posting of monthly nominal journals.
- Drafting Revenue Recognition journal on a monthly basis, reconciliation of Accrued and Deferred Revenue for trading companies.
- Monitoring and reporting of both Financial and Non-Financial metrics reported to Senior Management and Board level.
- Management of accounts payable function to ensure correct cut-off at month end and guarantee that all accruals are correctly identified.
- Management of accounts receivable function ensuring correct cut-off for invoicing and taking an active role in credit control, managing outstanding debts with Project Managers.
- Processing of Intercompany transactions, including Intercompany Interest and reconciliation of Intercompany position at month end.
- Contribute to the processing of payroll and staff expenses, ensuring compliance with internal policies and statutory requirements.
- Monitoring departmental budgets, investigating and communicating all variances in a timely manner.
- Provide external audit support, preparing requested information and ensuring data is complete, accurate, and readily accessible for external auditors.
- Maintain accurate and well‑organised financial records, ensuring all transactions are correctly coded, documented, and posted.
- Carry out bank reconciliations and assist in monitoring cash flow to support effective financial management.
- Support the day‑to‑day financial administration, including processing invoices, expenses, receipts, and other routine transactions.
- Undertake ad hoc finance tasks and wider Corporate Services projects, gaining exposure to a broad range of accounting and administrative responsibilities
Essential criteria
- Completing a 2.1 or above degree by June 2026 in Finance or Accounting.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; experience with accounting software is desirable.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrates initiative, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn.
- Professional and confidential approach to handling sensitive information.
- Ready to commence studying for professional accountancy exams.
Desirable Criteria
- Demonstrates a keen interest in GRC or corporate finance
- Experience working within a professional services business
