Consumer Protection Code
As a financial services firm, consumer protection starts with you. Keeping abreast of the regulations around consumer protection can be overwhelming. We can help make them clearer.
What are the regulations around consumer protection?
The Consumer Protection Code 2012 (amended) is a code of practice for financial service providers introduced by the Central Bank of Ireland in August 2006 to ensure consistent levels of protection for consumers.
Who does the Consumer Protection Code apply to?
The Consumer Protection Code applies to regulated entities operating in Ireland subject to Central Bank of Ireland supervision. It applies to branches when providing services in Ireland on establishment or cross-border basis. It does not apply to services provided to persons outside Ireland.
What is the approach from the regulator?
As one of its key strategic themes, the Central Bank of Ireland states it will continue to refine its approach to consumer protection supervision with more intrusive and targeted assessments of firms and products that pose greatest potential harm to consumers.
